Journal Policies

Peer-Review Policy

Economy of Regions uses double-blind peer-review. This means that the identity of the reviewer is unknown to the author and vice versa. After the moderation stage, each manuscript is sent for peer-review to at least two anonymous experts. On average, the review process takes 60 days. To evaluate manuscripts, the Editorial Team invites external peer-reviewers listed in the Publons database or other academic expertise search resources. Candidate reviewers who believe themselves to be insufficiently competent in the research topic, are unable provide the review report by the scheduled date, or whose involvement suggests a conflict of interest (for details see Publication ethics), are expected to decline an invitation for peer-review.

Referring to the Publication ethics and the Editor’s recommendations, peer-reviewers should send a review report including their comments on the manuscript and recommendation as follows:

  • Accepted
  • Accepted with minor revision
  • Accepted with major revision
  • Rejected

After at least two review reports on the manuscript have been submitted to the editorial system, the Subject Editor (or the Editor-in-Chief) considers the reviewers’ conclusions. If there is considerable disagreement between two reviewers of a single manuscript, the Subject Editor (or the Editor-in-Chief) may send it to one (or more) additional expert(s).

The Editor-in-Chief takes a preliminary decision on the manuscript's acceptance or rejection based on the reviewers’ reports. The Editorial Team sends a reasoned response to the authors, which includes the comments of all reviewers and the editorial decision:

  • Accepted
  • Accepted with minor revision
  • Accepted with major revision
  • Rejected

In cases where a manuscript is accepted with revision, the author is expected to submit the revised version and the detailed response to the reviewers’ comments within a month. If the author declines revision, the manuscript will be withdrawn from consideration and rejected.

Following revision according to the reviewers’ comments, manuscripts undergo a second, and, if necessary, third round of peer-review.

After all rounds of peer-review, the Subject Editor evaluates the revisions and final version of the article and provides a recommendation to the Editor-in-Chief concerning acceptance or rejection of the manuscript.

The Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision on the acceptance or rejection of the manuscript based on all reviewers’ reports and the recommendations of the Subject Editor. The author is informed of the final editorial decision (Further, see Manuscript Submission page).
